ちょんの間 (Red light district in Yokohama) 2006 2006年10月の横浜・黄金町 "chon-no-ma" (or "choi-no-ma" in some parts of Japan), rows of small sheds, cribs or cubicles, outside of which women would stand in inviting poses, under dim, pink-hued lights, awaiting male patrons for short-time trysts. "Chon" means short-time,and "ma" is a room. A part of Kogane-cho in Yokohama called were Chon no ma", and were an illicit sale place of an stimulant drug and a medicine and mecca of prostitution after the world war Ⅱ. This place was a location that Akira Kurosawa's film "High and Low". The authorities launched cleanup this area from around 2005, and "chon-no-ma" operations that had thrived in Yokohama was successively shut down.
